The US Boundary datasets supplied by eSpatial where obtained from the 2010 US Census Bureau. US State, County, Combined Statistical Area (CSA), Metropolitan/Micropolitan Area (MSA), ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) and Congressional District boundary datasets are provided by the eSpatial mapping software.

These boundary datasets can be used in conjunction with your own personal or commercial data. The eSpatial mapping software facilitates the linking of your own data with these boundary datasets allowing for a visual analysis of your data on a map. These boundary datasets can also be used in conjunction with your own data to create reports in which your data is summarized in relation to these boundaries.

Below is an example of this kind of report. This report was designed by eSpatial to illustrate how to get the most out of the eSpatial mapping software and the data it provides.

A heat map report was created using the eSpatial mapping software, the US State boundary dataset and a sample sales dataset which was created for the purpose of this report. This report examines total sales in relation to US states. This report could also have been ran against the US County, CSA, MSA, ZCTA and Congressional District boundary datasets but for the purpose of this sample report the US State boundary dataset was chosen.

States are coloured and categorized according to the total number of sales within each state in 2012. The graduated colour scheme adopted by eSpatial mapping software allows for a quick and easy analysis of this data. It is evident from the map that yellow coloured states (e.g. Utah) have the lowest sale totals, less than 380,000 while red coloured states (e.g. Texas) have the highest sale totals more than 965,000. It is also therefore easy to surmise that the sale totals in the light orange (e.g. Oklahoma), orange (e.g. Washington) and dark orange (e.g. Pennsylvania) coloured states lies somewhere between 380,000 and 965,000 respectively.

Firstly the topic reflected in the map can be changed quickly and easily simply by selecting the map this field option. Once this option has been selected the map will change to reflect the values in this topic (e.g. select the map this field option on Sum (Total Sales 2011) to see the 2011 values mapped in relation to US states).

Secondly the report can be sorted in ascending or descending order. This is useful when trying to decipher quickly which areas have the highest/lowest values (e.g. select sort ascending on Sum (Total Sales 2012) to see which state has the lowest number of sales). Finally the report can also be filtered by specific values. This is useful when trying to quickly search for areas with specific values (e.g. select filter results on (Total Sales 2012) so that states with between 500,000 and 800,000 sales are only displayed on the map).

Find and add datasets to your library

To find and add a dataset provided by eSpatial, you need to search for it in the eSpatial datastore which you will find in your library or when you click on the Add Data button from within a map. See image below to help you.
