What's a color coded map? For this example, we are going to look at maps that have different geographic regions distinguished by different colors. For example, below is a color coded map of France. Colors are used to indicate the different regions of France (Normandy, Bordeaux, etc). This map also uses regional boundary files to reveal the borders of each "departement" (like a US county) within a region.
