What is an annotation? An annotation a note added in explanation of an item. They are commonly used to describe and summarize important content.
This becomes especially important when it comes to a map which has been filtered and analysed as you need to give the viewer the ability to understand the map in the least amount of time possible. eSpatial’s map annotations allow you to do just that. Watch our video below to find out how! There are four main ways annotations are useful for any map and we’ll take a look at each of those in this blog post.
Tell A Story
Very often the map you have created is to tell some sort of a story, from the performance of your sales team, to the low hanging opportunities your organization could be winning. It may also be telling the story of your organization from humble beginnings into a global success. Annotations simply make it easier for the viewer of the map to understand what you want them to see.
If you have analysed and filtered your map to within an inch of it’s life, it may be difficult for an outsider to comprehend what is going on within the map without some sort of background information about what filters have been applied and from what perspective should you be viewing the data.
This is a powerful side to the new annotations feature as it allows the map creator to give the viewer exact instructions on how to use the map. Tips on filtering and turning on and off different layers. This saves the creator time by eliminating the need for a follow-up or accompanying email with instructions. It also saves the viewer the inconvenience of having to ask the creator what they are supposed to do with the map.
Brand Your Map
One of the top questions we get asked by our customers is about the ability to place their corporate logo on their map. And now you can using our new annotations feature. You can tie your logo image to a particular location or you can fix it to an area of the screen.
