You have exciting data and you want others to engage with it. You have a brainwave: create a map with pins! But your manager wants something in the next hour, and you’re no cartographer! Don’t panic…
Presuming you have nice clean data with a location element – address, zip code, etc. – in an Excel document, let’s see how fast we can create a map with pins!
Start the stopwatch…
1. Save your Excel file. Time taken: 2-10 Seconds
2. Get a free eSpatial account Time taken: 30 seconds
3. Click Upload Data on the eSpatial homepage, find your file and then click Complete Now. The time this takes is dependent on quality & volume of data and, of course, internet connection speed. My sample is a 400-point dataset (Download here)
Time taken: 1 minute and 30 seconds
4. When the upload is complete (and if there are no errors), click Map My Data. That’s it – you’ve created a map. Time taken: 15 seconds
