Senior Java Developers

We’re now hiring additional senior Java developers to work in our Product Development department. Candidates should have over 5 years’ software development experience, with strong Java skills, and knowledge of one or more of application integration, databases, and Web (AJAX, JavaScript, HTML, CSS). Exposure to GIS and/or spatial databases would be a benefit but is not essential. This is a permanent full-time position.

The positions

These positions are based within the company’s Product Development department, working on new software product capabilities, including at least one position to develop secure integration over the internet of online Web GIS applications with other business applications.

Candidates should have worked in a development role for at least 5 years. Candidates should be highly proficient in application integration middleware, web, and database systems, and have an in depth knowledge of the Java web application frameworks and associated technologies.

Candidates need to be able to work effectively with both fellow developers, other parts of the eSpatial organisation, and customers.

Essential skills

  • Programming: Java, SQL.
  • Database – especially Oracle.
  • Operating systems: Linux, Microsoft Windows, Solaris.
  • System – security, performance & scalability, reliability of systems.
  • Full range of software engineering skills: requirements analysis, object oriented design, documentation, tracking…
  • Able to work well as part of a team, good communication skills (both written and verbal) – quick learner.

Desirable but not essential skills (must have at least 2 years’ experience of one of these)

  • Application Integration experience & knowledge of application integration middleware.
  • Web programming: AJAX, JavaScript, JSON, HTML, CSS.
  • Web Services (SOAP, XML…).
  • J2EE Enterprise Java Application servers.
  • GIS systems – using and developing GIS systems – e.g. ESRI, MapInfo, Intergraph.
  • Oracle Spatial.
