Are you ready for a mappy Christmas?
With Christmas festivities in full swing, we’ve recently been seeing and hearing more and more about the traditional Christmas markets that are taking place all over the world.
We thought we’d treat you to some Christmas markets maps so you can see where they’re all located. We’ve even styled our data with some festive cheer – and rather than points for market locations – we have Christmas trees!
Our first map (above) illustrates where the most popular and well-known Christmas markets are held. The map shows a heavy concentration of points along the northern hemisphere, particularly in countries such as Germany, Denmark, Belgium and Switzerland.
We wonder if the lack of Christmas markets in the southern hemisphere is due to the great weather – maybe everyone’s too busy enjoying the sunny beaches?
Our second map (right) zooms in on Germany, where the tradition of Christmas markets originated – one of the first recorded Christmas markets was held in Dresden as long ago as 1434.This map shows lots of markets in the south near Cologne, and in the west near Stuttgart, but much fewer in the east.
Are you planning to, or have you visited any of these markets? Leave us a comment and tell us about it!
