Moving Office into the cloud

29 June 2011

Microsoft officially launched Office 365 yesterday, making its well-known Office suite available via cloud delivery.

Cloud delivery is hardly new. Business giants like Google, Amazon and Salesforce have long since adopted and made the cloud not only a viable option, but also an attractive one.

By throwing its weight behind a cloud launch for what is arguably its flagship product suite, Microsoft only underlines what many technology analysts have already been saying: The cloud isn’t going to be blown away by a puff of wind – it’s here to stay.

As pioneers in cloud-based GIS, we’re firm believers in using the cloud to make software available to users in a convenient, cost-effective manner.

With a pre-launch customer base reportedly in excess of 200,000 businesses, the official launch of Office 365 further demonstrates that businesses are recognise and are keen to take advantage of the value offered by cloud-based software.
