We’ve revamped our product offerings, updated our website and now added this blog to keep you up-to-date with the changing world of GIS and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).
As one of the first GIS software developers to embrace the Web wholeheartedly with the first pure-web GIS product as far back as 2005, we at eSpatial also intend to be at the forefront of GIS in the Cloud and GIS as a Service. With iSMART® Web GIS we have pioneered the first full-function GIS that is available in the cloud as software as a service.
GIS has been around for a long time, and those of us who have worked with the technology over the years realise the significant benefits that GIS can deliver for businesses large and small. To date however, GIS has been too difficult for mainstream businesses to adopt, but that’s a set to change as cloud computing and SaaS are conspiring to put GIS well and truly on the map.
SaaS is transforming the way business and government organisations buy and use business software, including GIS. Why? Because it’s easier, faster and cheaper to deploy – which means more users and in more organisations can take advantage of the benefits of GIS.
For a software sector that hasn’t seen a huge amount of change over the past two decades the advent of GIS as a Service is a big shift that will really shake things up. In this blog we’ll be talking about SaaS and GIS, and how the new service paradigm is spreading the use of GIS software to a growing and grateful audience.
