| iSMART 5.4, the most advanced Web 2.0 GIS Software Product suite available on the market today. |
Dublin, Ireland, July 10, 2007. eSpatial, a global Enterprise Geospatial Software and Technology Company today announced it has been selected by Dublin Bus to develop a Bus Stop Database system based on eSpatial’s iSMART® product suite.
The new Bus Stop System (BSS) will modernise the processing of bus stop information - information currently residing in disparate spreadsheets and databases. The capture and update of bus stop information will be integrated into the new application based on best of breed web and database technology. The BSS will contain a mapping component, based on eSpatial’s iSMART, which will efficiently allow the capture, view and query of bus stop data in a seamless manner.
eSpatial’s new bus stop solution will allow for the creation and update of bus stop information by selected personnel within the various departments of Dublin Bus and information can be imported from existing applications, spreadsheets and databases. As well as reference information held in text form, the system will be capable of holding pictures, GPS co-ordinates and relevant drawings / documents / forms associated with Dublin bus stops. The planned AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) system will also utilise the information contained within the database.
BSS will be built using iSMART, Oracle 10g Application Server and Oracle 10g Database including Locator. Oracle Locator provides the capability to store spatial data and together with Oracle Spatial is increasingly becoming the de facto standard for spatial data storage within the GIS industry. eSpatial is at the forefront of delivering sophisticated and powerful applications on this platform.
These technologies will provide Dublin Bus with a scalable system for the data capture, analysis, storage, and maintenance of bus stop information. This is a server centric, integrated system in a standard non-proprietary environment; having a single instance of all attribute, mapping and data stored in an Oracle Database.
John Caulfield, Solutions Director, Oracle Ireland said “Oracle is delighted that eSpatial will provide the Dublin Bus Mapping Solution. iSMART, together with the Oracle database, offers Dublin Bus a low cost, rapidly deployable multi-user web based application including viewing, editing, analysis and management of its data.”
Leveraging eSpatial’s open approach to data storage and access, underpinned by an administration function to control user privileges, the iSMART based solution will provide extensive integration options to allow all departments controlled access to bus stop information. This is achieved through the ability to integrate business and spatial data in the database, provision of spatial functions for viewing, editing and querying in the application server and the ability to support a variety of user interfaces and devices.
Donal Keating, Dublin Bus Manager Operations Support, “Dublin Bus is delighted to be working with eSpatial, a global GIS software and technology company, headquartered here in Dublin and we are excited about the asset management capabilities this system provides us with.” He continued, “Plus we get an excellent return on investment as the web-based data capture and maintenance capabilities greatly reduce the dependency on deploying costly GIS tools.”
Philip O’Doherty, eSpatial CEO added, “We’re proud to be chosen by Dublin Bus to develop this system and the win further establishes eSpatial as a market leader in providing on-line mapping and location applications that support and integrate with real-world internal and external business systems.”
