| iSMART 5.4, the most advanced Web 2.0 GIS Software Product suite available on the market today. |
17 July 2007, Dublin, Ireland, eSpatial, a leading provider of enterprise geospatial software and solutions today announced the availability of iSMART 5.3, a new version of its Geospatial software product which now includes new Web 2.0 web based editing solution for Geospatial data.
iSMART 5.3 provides the ability to deliver web browser based, integrated business applications featuring user editing and viewing capabilities usually only available in traditional desktop-installed GIS and CAD tools.
This unique approach delivers major advantages. Developers can directly embed GIS capabilities in modern web based business applications. This provides the ability to directly control the features and capabilities available to an end-user based on the specific task and workflow being carried out. The iSMART solution consolidates business and spatial data (e.g. separate CAD / GIS files) into a single seamless environment in Oracle. These web spatial editing capabilities are powerful enough to replace traditional desktop-installed specialist GIS Tools for a large variety of business solutions.
“Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX and JSON enable web based applications to provide capabilities and interactivity traditionally only available on desktop tools” said Eamon Walsh, CTO eSpatial, “We are using these technologies for geospatial data editing, providing enterprise-grade geospatial multi-user data capture and editing facilities for pure web applications”.
The new Web Editing technology is already in use by Verizon as a core component of a new National Engineering and Outside Plant Planning application called VEGA (Verizon Enterprise Geospatial Application). Verizon Communications Inc. is one of the largest Telecommunications Companies in the world with revenues of $88 Billion in 2006.
Delivered as a set of Java Server Page (JSP) tags and an AJAX based development library, the new capabilities allow developers to produce custom applications featuring capabilities such as digitizing, editing, snapping, labeling, undo/redo and multiple selection – all within a browser based application with no plug-ins or ActiveX controls. In addition, data can be exported to a number of common formats including MS-Excel, SVG, PDF & common image formats.
“eSpatial has led the way in delivery of web-based, enterprise grade geospatial applications for many years now” said Philip O’Doherty, CEO eSpatial, “This new capability builds on our successes and takes our technology to the next level bringing this approach to enterprise solutions to deliver powerful and robust editing and management capabilities integrated directly into standard online business applications. Significant cost savings are possible in terms of reduced client licenses, reduced development, deployment, and maintenance costs, improved productivity, and sharing consolidated, timely and high quality data across the organization”
The new Web Editing technology are available as part of iSMART 5.3 – the latest version of eSpatial’s iSMART® software suite. Further information including demonstrations of the technology in action is available at eSpatial’s website at www.espatial.com
